Prepare a useful maintenance record

A log helps you connect inspections, service and recurring problems.

Record the actual work

Keep the dates and details of maintenance performed on the boat, motor, trailer and relevant equipment. Store service receipts and refer to the manufacturer’s schedule for the specific model. A note saying everything checked is less useful than identifying what was inspected and what still needs attention. Record faults promptly so that a small intermittent problem is not forgotten between trips.

Make follow-up visible

Separate completed tasks from pending ones and note who is qualified to resolve each issue. Do not use a journal article as a replacement for the service manual or professional repair guidance. When an unresolved fault affects safe operation, postpone use. Review the log before arranging service so the technician receives clear observations rather than a vague account reconstructed under pressure.

A short trip checklist

  • Keep model-specific guidance.
  • Separate done and pending.
  • Record recurring faults clearly.
