Planning a trip

Pack a compact shore-fishing kit

A smaller kit can make walking and organising easier.

Build around the location

Start with what you can comfortably carry to a permitted fishing position. One familiar rod, a small selection of tackle, suitable tools and practical weather clothing may be more useful than several heavy boxes. Consider the path, available space and whether you can retrieve equipment without entering unsafe water. Protect hooks during transport and keep a separate container for discarded line and packaging.

Give every item a place

Arrange the bag so that frequently used tools can be found without unpacking everything. Keep a dry pouch for keys and a charged phone, and carry drinking water suited to the outing. Review the kit after each visit. Removing unused duplicates can create space for items you repeatedly need. A compact kit is a deliberate choice of equipment, not an excuse to omit safety essentials or ignore local requirements.

A short trip checklist

  • Protect hooks during transport.
  • Keep keys and phone dry.
  • Carry discarded line home.
